Departure Procedures

There are 2 published departures, CAPITAL 5 and PRYME 2

All aircraft will be cleared via the CAPITAL 5 regardless of if they file it or not.

The PRYME2 is only valid for RNAV aircraft and if the pilot does not file for it, chances are he doesn't have it. Currently the PRYME 2 departure is OUT OF SERVICE (OTS), so do not clear aircraft using this procedure.

Initial altitude

3,000 for all types

Departure Gates

Unless coordinated with the departure controller, all aircraft will use one of the following departure gates:

Direction Gate
North WOOLY
East SWANN, PALEO
South / Southeast DAILY
South / Southwest HAFNR, FLUKY
West LDN, AML (J149)
Northwest MRB, BUFFR, JERES

Departures exitiing via AML J149 will be given "...CAPITAL 5 departure, radar vectors to GINYA join J149 ..." as the route part of the clearance.

If EMI is the first waypoint in a flightplan, clear aircraft ".. via radar vectors WOOLY direct EMI ..." as the route part of the clearance.

Departure Frequency

  • When there is just one Dulles Departure (IAD_DEP) controller online, the departure frequency for all exits is 125.05
  • When there are two (2) Dulles Departure (IAD_DEP) controllers online, the departure frequency is,
    • 125.05 for MRB, BUFFR, JERES, WOOLY, SWANN, PALEO and DAILY exit gates
    • 126.65 for HAFNR, FLUKY, LDN and J149 exit gates
