Arrivals

Some aircraft may call tower on the downwind or base for runway 19L/1R at which time they will be sequenced by the tower and told what aircraft (if any) to follow.

All other aircraft will call when they are established on final for their runway at which time tower will clear them to land.

When aircraft are clear of the runway tower will have them hold short of the first taxiway (YANKEE or KILO) and tell them to contact ground.

Aircraft landing on runway 12 who exit the runway prior to taxiway YANKEE will remain with tower until crossing taxiway YANKEE and then handed off to ground.

Aircraft landing on runway 12 may have to be held short of the departure end of runway 19R for traffic.

Departures

All departures will be told to contact tower when holding short, or to monitor the tower when no longer need by ground control. If they are told to monitor then tower, then they expect the tower controller to call them.

If necessary, a pilot may need to fly a heading when airborne, if one is needed consult the Dulles Operations Page to find an appropriate one.

When departing runway 30, aircraft need to be advised of any traffic landing runway 1L or departing runway 19R. If you do not advise the pilot, then he may take his time beginning the takeoff roll and that can force a runway 1L arrival to have to go around.

Once an aircraft are observed airborne, (not when they call airborne) should be told to contact departure. The frequency is not needed since it was given in the clearance.
