Washington Center Area "A" SOP

Frequency

  1. VHF - 127.70

Airspace

  1. All airspace from the SFC up to but not including FL240 (or FL600 when High Area Sectors are closed) within the lateral limits of the sector as depicted on the Sector Diagram excluding any TRACON airspace.
  2. Shall assume control of the following TRACONS when the sectors are not manned
    1. Atlantic City TRACON
    2. Dover RAPCON
    3. Baltimore sector of the Potomac TRACON

Arrival Routing

Potomac (PCT) TRACON

  1. Shall be routed as per the LOA

Philadelphia (PHL) TRACON

  1. FAK DUPONT4 or PXT DUPONT4 or PXT TERRI, cross TERRI at 10,000
  2. SWL VCN7 or SWL SIE VCN OOD, cross VCN at 9,000

Handoff to “Philadelphia Approach” PHL_SP_APP (128.4)

Atlantic City (ACY) TRACON

  1. V44 and/or SIE, cross SIE at 8,000
  2. V268, cross LEEAH at 8,000

Handoff to “Atlantic City Approach” ACY_APP (124.9) at 8,000

New York (N90) TRACON- Kennedy (JFK)

  1. SIE CAMRN4 or SIE HOGGS CAMRN, cross HOGGS at FL190 and 280kts

Handoff to “New York Center” NY_MAN_CTR (134.55) over HOGGS

New York (N90) TRACON- Newark (EWR)

  1. DYLIN2, aircraft will be instructed to “descend via the DYLIN2 arrival” and meet all of the altitude crossings as published
  2. Turbojet aircraft unable to accept the DYLIN2 shall be routed via ARD and cross ARD at 8,000
  3. Turboprop aircraft shall be routed via ARD and cross ARD at 6,000

Handoff to “New York Approach” NY_RBV_APP (128.55) between SOMTO and ARD

New York (N90) TRACON- La Guardia (LGA)

  1. KORRY2, aircraft will be instructed to “descend via the KORRY2 arrival” and meet all of the altitude crossings as published
  2. Turbojet aircraft unable to accept the KORRY2 shall be routed via RBV and cross RBV at 10,000
  3. Turboprop aircraft must be coordinated with New York

Handoff to “New York Approach” NY_EMP_APP (127.3) between KORRY and RBV
When the LGA sectors are combined, handoff to “New York Approach” NY_HRP_APP (120.8)

New York (N90) TRACON- Long Island MacArthur (ISP)

  1. BRIGS J121 SARDI, cross BRIGS at FL240

Handoff to “New York Center” NY_MAN_CTR (134.55) descending to FL230 at BRIGGS

Boston Logan (BOS) TRACON

  1. J79/J222/J225 JFK ORW 3 or JFK ORW PVD, between FL240-FL370

Handoff to “New York Center” NY_KEN_CTR (125.32)

Bradley (BDL) TRACON

  1. J79/J222/J225 JFK DPK DPK2 or JFK DPK MAD between FL240-FL330

Providence (PVD) TRACON

  1. J79/J222/J225 JFK or direct JFK

    Handoff aircraft below FL240 to “New York Center” NY_KEN_CTR (125.32)

Handoffs

TRACON’s within ZDC

Place all handoff requests at least 20nm and 5000ft prior to the aircraft leaving your sector to be sure that the TRACON is able to accept the aircraft

Center sectors within ZDC

Place all handoff requests at least 15nm prior to the aircraft leaving your sector to be sure the receiving facility can accept the aircraft

New York TRACON’s (N90 and PHL)

Place all handoff requests at least 30nm and/or 8,000ft prior to the aircraft leaving your sector to be sure the receiving facility can accept the aircraft.

Neighboring Center sectors (ZNY, ZBW)

Place all handoff requests at least 50nm prior to the aircraft leaving your sector to be sure the receiving facility can accept the aircraft

Transfer of communication

The transfer of communication shall occur at least 5nm and 1000ft from the end of your sector. You must be sure that the aircraft has sufficient time to contact the next controller prior to leaving your airspace.

Unless coordinated with the next sector, all aircraft must be at 1X prior to the transfer of communication.
