Washington Center Area "B" SOP

Frequency

  1. VHF - 134.40

Airspace

  1. All airspace from the SFC up to but not including FL240 (or FL600 when High Area Sectors are closed) within the lateral limits of the sector as depicted on the Sector Diagram excluding any TRACON airspace.
  2. Shall assume control of the following TRACONS when the sectors are not manned
    1. Roanoke TRACON
    2. Dulles sector of the Potomac TRACON
    3. Charlottesville sector of the Potomac TRACON

Arrival Routing

Potomac (PCT) TRACON

  1. Shall be routed as per the LOA

Potomac (PCT) TRACON- Richmond (RIC) Sector

  1. FAK, cross 15 miles west of FAK at 9,000

Handoff to “Potomac Approach” RIC_W_APP (134.7)

Roanoke (ROA) TRACON

  1. Prior coordination with Roanoke TRACON

Raleigh-Durham (RDU) TRACON

  1. SBV 3 arrival, with clearance to cross ALDAN at 10,000.

Handoff to “Washington Center” DC_E_CTR (124.05)

Pittsburgh (PIT) TRACON

  1. NESTO2, aircraft must be at or below FL240 prior to the sector boundary
  2. Direct IHD aircraft must be at or below FL240 prior to the sector boundary

Handoff to “Cleveland Center” CLE_E_CTR (134.9)

Atlanta-Hartsfield (ATL) TRACON

  1. MOL MACEY2
  2. MOL direct ODF

Handoff to “Atlanta Center” ATL_E_CTR (133.95) at cruise altitude

Charlottes-Douglass (CLT) TRACON

  1. LYH or ROA and MAJIC9 with clearance to cross MAYOS at FL220

Handoff to “Washington Center” DC_E_CTR (124.05)

Provide at least 10 MIT between:

Each IAD and DCA arrival via DOCCS or DRUZZ

Each aircraft inbound on the same route the to the same airport

Handoffs

TRACON’s within ZDC

Place all handoff requests at least 20nm and 5000ft prior to the aircraft leaving your sector to be sure that the TRACON is able to accept the aircraft

Center sectors within ZDC

Place all handoff requests at least 15nm prior to the aircraft leaving your sector to be sure the receiving facility can accept the aircraft

Neighboring Center sectors (ZOB, ZID, ZTL)

Place all handoff requests at least 50nm prior to the aircraft leaving your sector to be sure the receiving facility can accept the aircraft

Transfer of communication

The transfer of communication shall occur at least 5nm and 1000ft from the end of your sector. You must be sure that the aircraft has sufficient time to contact the next controller prior to leaving your airspace.

Unless coordinated with the next sector, all aircraft must be at 1X prior to the transfer of communication.
